We launched Closet Club with a clear vision and determination to tackle the issue of clothing-related waste faced by influencers managing their extensive wardrobes. We firmly believe that every item in someone's closet has value, and it's our mission to give it a second chance, ensuring that it continues to be cherished and worn by someone new.
In 2023, the fashion industry produced 97 million tons of waste, including 18 million leftover textiles, 2.5 million in chemical waste, and 3 million in packaging materials. The 92 million tons of textile waste alone take up about 10% of all greenhouse gas emissions.
Through our innovative platform, we connect fashion enthusiasts and their followers, offering a unique opportunity to sell pre-loved items directly to their dedicated fan base. By facilitating the resale of these garments, we contribute to reducing fashion-related waste and promoting a circular economy.
In line with our sustainability commitment, we have decided not to accept items from well-known fast fashion brands, such as Zara, Shein, Uniqlo, H&M, Topshop, and others notorious for their environmental impact. While occasional vintage pieces from brands such as Gap may still appear, our focus on recycling and reducing the demand for new items remains paramount. Items we're unable to sell are donated.
To further enhance our environmental impact reduction, we employ sustainable packaging practices, ensuring that our commitment extends beyond the products themselves. We use only recycled materials for all of our packaging needs, further reducing waste that generates from the fashion industry.
